Check frequently asked questions about Renewable Energy
Resolved Question: Is this a good opening paragraph for a environmental science essay on renewable energy.?
Essay Prompt...What is the most important environmental problem we face and why? .................................................................................................................................................................................................... I believe the most telling environmental problem that the United States (and many other countries) will face in the close future will be the transition away from a fossil fuel based society. In order to accomplish this, we must make a concerted push towards an environmentally conscious, technologically advanced, and humanistic renewable energy generation. The resources available to achieve this are essentially limitless, with new ways to utilize them being introduced almost daily. As a matter of fact, there are some extremely promising options that are already in use, such as the production of wind, solar, and geothermal energy. Ultimately though, it will be public policy and political decision makers which will dictate whether or not these efforts are successful, halfhearted, or even pursed at every. Let me know what I can do to improve this, best answer will receive best answer....

Resolved Question: What do you think of Gore's energy and climate plan?
Gore has outlined a 5 part energy and climate plan. He'll likely have some role in the Obama Administration on these subjects, so his opinions carry a lot of weight. To sum up the plan: 1) big-scale investment in incentives in renewable energy 2) Planning and construction of a unified national smart grid 3) Help America’s automobile industry to convert quickly to plug-in hybrids 4) Embark on a nationwide effort to retrofit buildings with better insulation and energy-efficient windows and lighting 5) The United States should guide the way by putting a price on carbon here at home, and by leading the world’s efforts to replace the Kyoto treaty next year in Copenhagen with a more effective treaty that caps global carbon dioxide emissions and encourages nations to invest together in efficient ways to reduce global warming pollution quickly, including by sharply reducing deforestation. http://climateprogress.org/2008/11/09/gore-lays-out/#more-4184 Quite similar to Obama's energy and climate plan actually. What do you think of it? Note - I don't need to hear a bunch of stupid Gore insults. Just stick to discussing the plan.

Open Question: Is "sustainable" the new liberal buzzword of 2008?
First we had "green". Everyone just had to go green. Then it was "diversity". Everyone had to make sure their company, community, and life was as diverse as possible. Now, we are talking about sustainability. Everything we touch must be from sustainable materials. My word for 2009 is gay. This is every gay. G A Y. You neo-hippies will never receive me with your lame buzzwords aimed at forcing me to do something you don't do in your possess life. It's pathetic to receive lectures from Democrats like Al Gore about renewable energy when he flies around the world in his private jet and lives in a 10,000 sqft. mansion. It's dumb to receive lectures about global warming from idiot hollywood celebs like John Travolta when he has 2 full size airplanes in his backyard. Open Question: When our economy ultimately goes bust, will you be happy just to work in one of Obama's forced labor gulags?
Taken from an Obama speech: Today, AmeriCorps - our nation's network of local, state and national service programs - has 75,000 slots. I know firsthand the quality of these programs. My wife Michelle once left her job at a law firm to be the founding director of an AmeriCorps program in Chicago that trains young people for careers in public service. These programs invest Americans in their communities and their country. They tap America's greatest resource - our citizens. As President, I will expand AmeriCorps to 250,000 slots, and make that increased service a vehicle to meet national goals like providing health care and education, saving our planet and restoring our standing in the world, so that citizens look their efforts connected to a common purpose. People of every ages, stations, and skills will be asked to serve. Because when it comes to the challenges we face, the American people are not the problem - they are the answer. We'll send more college graduates to tutor and mentor our young people. We'll call on Americans to join an Energy Corps to conduct renewable energy and environmental cleanup projects in their neighborhoods. We'll enlist veterans to help other vets find jobs and support, and to be there for our military families. And we'll also grow our Foreign Service, open consulates that have been shuttered, and double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011 to renew our diplomacy. And we'll use technology to connect people to service. We'll expand USA Freedom Corps to create an online network where Americans can browse opportunities to volunteer. You'll be able to search by category, time commitment, and skill sets; you'll be able to rate service opportunities, build service networks, and create your possess service pages to track your hours and activities. This will empower more Americans to craft their possess service agenda, and make their possess change from the bottom up. We also need to invest in ideas that can help us meet our common challenges, because more often than not, the next great social innovation won't be generated by the government. The non-profit sector employs 1 in 12 Americans and 115 nonprofits are launched every day. Yet while the federal government invests $7 billion in research and development for the private sector, there is no similar effort to support non-profit innovation. Meanwhile, there are ideas across America - in our inner cities and tiny towns; from college graduates, to seniors getting ready to retire - that could benefit millions of Americans if they're given the chance to grow. As President, I will launch a new Social Investment Fund Network. It's time to receive the grass roots, the foundations, the faith-based organizations, the private sector and the government at the table so that we can learn from our possess success stories. We'll invest in ideas that work; leverage private sector dollars to encourage innovation; and expand successful programs to scale. Take a program like the Harlem kids's Zone, which helps thousands of kids in New York through after-school activities, mentoring, and family support. We need to make that model work in different cities across America. And just as we support tiny businesses, I'll start a new Social Entrepreneur Agency to make sure that tiny non-profits have strong support from Washington.

Resolved Question: I'm doing a project on US Energy Policy and it parallels Obama's plan, how does he plan to implement his ideas?
I'm doing a project on US Energy Policy and it parallels Obama's plan, how does he plan to implement his ideas? He plans to support the creation of renewable energy sources like wind and solar and improve the America's aging electrical grid to support future plug in hybrid vehicles. How does he plan to implement? Best Answer goes to the most relevant and detailed answer. Thanks. "&", the fact that only 1% of US energy is produced via wind and solar has nothing to do with future consumption or validity and if anything it means it is just an untapped energy source. You are probably right about it being a campaigning slogan... but that is every any politician gives the public. At least Barrack Obama has a highly qualified staff of experts unlike previous presidents and past presidential hopefuls. And don't you think natural gas is the energy source trying to be forced onto America? Have you seen every the commercials? Natural Gas is chilly, but direct consumption of the ORIGINAL source of energy (the Sun) via wind, wave, geothermal, and solar means is future in my book. Suppose I am going to 1 up our president elect and arrive up with a method to implement our energy plan myself. LOL

Open Question: Could someone please check my essay for grammatical errors and punctuation ?
Global warming threatens the whole world. Though it has had little noticeable impact on the world so far, its potential impact could be disastrous which is why global warming has become an issue ever gift in the media and for governments. One of the biggest problems facing the Bahamas today is global warming. Future predictions do not look good for the Bahamas. There are many causes, such as the greenhouse effect through the burning of fossil fuels, the rise in sea level which will not be good for the Bahamas and, pollution which poses many problems for this country. You have heard that “for every cause, there is an effect”. Agricultural would be greatly impacted by global warming, Climate change could have a severe effect on the Bahamas; the economic consequences could guide to instability for this country. There are many solutions. First cease making CO2 and switch from oil, coal and gas to renewable energy, secondly the Bahamas have plenty of sunshine; they can create a solar farm, thirdly use less energy and recycle more product. The more Bahamians recycle the less they contribute to the greenhouse effect. There are many causes of the greenhouse effect. The most common greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide. They are released by the burning of fossil fuels which are a major leading cause of concern for the Bahamas. These emissions can be seen when a car is started on a icy early morning. The muffler will emit visible vapor. The more cars run idle for a long period of time, the more carbon dioxide is emitted into the air. It can be seen in the form of smoke in heavy populated cities like New Providence and Grand Bahama. Many things contribute to global warming such as factories (e.g. BORCO in Grand Bahama), transportation, waste products and agriculture. The greenhouse effect is crucial to our being. Without the greenhouse effect, the earth would not be warm enough for the human race to live. If the Bahamas continues to contribute to the greenhouse effects by continuing to burn fossil fuel and sending more pollution in the atmosphere this can cause a great deal of health problems for its citizens of the Bahamas. First of every air pollution causes a great deal of health problems; such as, aggravated asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, lung and heart diseases, and respiratory allergies. Wanting clean air is an important factor to consider because air that is polluted can result in s death. However, our health is not the only thing to be threatened, our environment is threatened too. Indeed, air pollution causes some disorders on the environment, meaning the increase in sea temperatures and the destruction of coral reefs. The Bahamas has another source of pollution cruise ships. They produce an enormous amount of unwanted gases and fumes. This makes it a major contributor of pollution. For instance, while in port at Nassau harbour or at other islands, cruise boat that sails to the Bahamas spends one day in New Providence or a tiny amount of time at some other island. Cruise liners use about three hundred thousand tons of fuel on a daily basis and a considerable amount while docked. If there are three ships in Bahamian waters that are tied up at the Prince Gorge dock for example, whatever they use can guide up to three hundred thousand tons of fuel per year. {English 119 booklet Par.7 pg 26} “This generates about on million tonnes of greenhouse gases” which can contribute to the rise in look level Most of our islands are in five feet or more over sea level. The Bahamas being a low-lying area as it is, fresh water ponds can be severely affected as a result. There are many well fields in some of the islands, which can become contaminated due to the rise in sea levels. This spells disaster for those islands in which water is pumped from places like Andros and Grand Bahama. {Climate Change in the Caribbean by Larry Smith} states “Indications are that some fresh water marshes in the Bahamas have already become brackish, which may be attributed to rising sea levels. Scientists are ardently trying to find ways to counteract the effects that the rising waters are causing, which includes island and beach erosion. Evidence of the public’s ignorance of the inevitable impact of the rising sea levels is shown in the millions of people that are flocking to the coast. The Bahamas is mainly a low-lying country; a rising sea levels will negatively affect coastal areas; eroding beaches, mangroves, coral reefs and tourism; and eventually cause some islands to disperse because of the costal erosion. The Bahamas is basically a low- lying country; the highest point being two hundred and six feet over sea level; thus, this make the Bahamas vulnerable to the effect of climate change and higher temperature increase flooding due to heavier rains. Open Question: What do you think of Schwarzenegger's mandate that 33% of California energy be renewable by 2030?
California Gov. Open Question: Why doesn't the Dem congress do something about Bush undermining Obama's transistion?
Despite every of this potential lawlessness, the Democrats are either openly defending the administration or refusing to intervene. "There is only one president at a time," we hear from Barack Obama. That's true. But every sweetheart deal the lame-duck Bush administration makes threatens to hobble Obama's ability to make good on his promise of change. To cite just one example, that $140 billion in missing tax revenue is almost the same sum as Obama's renewable energy program. Obama owes it to the people who elected him to call this what it is: an attempt to undermine the electoral process by stealth. Yes, there is only one president at a time, but that president needed the support of powerful Democrats, including Obama, to receive the bailout passed. Now that it is clear that the Bush administration is violating the terms to which both parties agreed, the Democrats have not just the right but a grave responsibility to intervene forcefully.

Voting Question: Chemistry Major Struggling With Calculus?
I've been working towards a major in Chemistry, but I have found that I am not particularly good with calculus and that has been tripping me up. I've been an 'A' student with only a few B's throughout college so far. But this semester I took Physical Chemistry, Calculus 2, and Engineering Physics (Calculus-based General Physics for majors). I had to drop Cal 2, I am in danger of failing Physical Chemistry (which requires mastery of advanced calculus), and will probably make a B or C in Physics. Most of my trouble with these classes seem to be because I am not very good at understanding calculus. I can memorize Cal 1 procedures, but I have much difficulty applying them to advanced calculus and calculus based science courses. I'm looking for some advice. Should I continue on with chemistry or perhaps switch too a less math intensive major? Is there any use being a chemist that cannot do calculus well? I was thinking about a career that had to do with renewable energy, but I am not dead set on anything particular.

Discuss the cause and effects of global warming on the Bahamas then offer viable solutions Global warming, what does it mean? Global warming is often referred to as "the greenhouse effect". Both imply the absorption of energy radiated from earth's surface by carbon dioxide and other gasses in the atmosphere. Global warming threatens the whole world. Though it has had little noticeable impact on the world so far, its potential impact could be disastrous which is why global warming has become an issue ever gift in the media and for governments. For instance, a cruise boat that calls upon the Bahamas spent one day in Nassau harbour or a few days at other developed islands. “Most cruise boat uses about 300 tonnes of fuel per day at sea, and significant amounts while in harbour”. {English 119 booklet Paragraph. 7} The Bahamas is a very low- line country; the highest point being 206 ft over sea level; thus, this make this makes the Bahamas vulnerable to the effect of climate change and higher temperatures and even an increase flooding due to heavier rains; this will result in more malaria, dengue and other tropical diseases. As former Best Commission advisor John Hammerton said recently, Given that most of the Bahamas is a low-line coastal zone subject to storm surge and sea level rise, we should be anticipating the possible impacts of climate change and developing strategies to protect our habitats and landscapes based on the predications.” Climate change could also have a serve effect on natural disasters. There might be more frequent and intense hurricanes and storm

Voting Question: could someone read my essay for me and give your opinion I am not finish yet.?
Discuss the cause and effects of global warming on the Bahamas then offer viable solutions Global warming, what does it mean? Global warming is often referred to as "the greenhouse effect". Both imply the absorption of energy radiated from earth's surface by carbon dioxide and other gasses in the atmosphere. Global warming threatens the whole world. Though it has had little noticeable impact on the world so far, its potential impact could be disastrous which is why global warming has become an issue ever gift in the media and for governments. There are many causes such as greenhouse effect through the burning of fossil fuels, the rise in sea level, and pollution. You have heard that for every cause, there is an effect; well, the effects for us are. Agricultural practices, climate change, and the economic consequences and the solutions are renewable energy the Bahamas need to announce target for reduction for emission There are many causes of the greenhouse effect. The most common greenhouse gas is Carbon dioxide; Carbon dioxide and its associate greenhouse gases. The Bahamas depend solely they are released by the burning of fossil fuels; which is a major leading cause of concern for the Bahamas. These emissions can be seen when you start your car on a icy early morning and the muffler smokes. Also, the more cars sit for a long period of time on the road the more CO2 is admitted into the air. It can be seen in the form of smoke in the heavily populated cities like New Providence and Grand Bahama. Many things contribute to global warming. Such things are industries, transportation, electricity used, waste produced, and agriculture. The greenhouse is very vital to our being. Without the greenhouse effect, the earth would not be warm enough for the human race to live. But if the greenhouse effect becomes stronger, it could make the earth warmer than usual. Even a little extra warming may cause problems for humans, plants, and animals to carry on everyday life. Another cause for global warming is the rise in look level; most of our islands is in 5ft of mean sea level. The Bahamas being a low-line area; it is likely that the fresh water ponds will be severally affect in some islands of the Bahamas. There are many well fields in some of the islands of the Bahamas, which will become contaminated due to the rise in sea level; this spells disaster for those islands whose water is pumped from well fields meanly Andros and Grand Bahama. Paragraph 6 of Climate Change in the Caribbean by Larry smith states that, “Indications are that some fresh water marshes in the Bahamas have already become brackish, which may be attributed to rising sea levels. And it is known that well fields on Andros and Grand Bahama have been badly affected by storm surge in the past five years. Scientist are fervently trying to find ways to counter act the effects that the rising waters are causing, which includes island and beach erosion. Evidence of the public’s ignorance of the inevitable impact of Sea Level Rising is shown in the millions of people that are flocking to the coast. Rising sea levels, winds, and currents are constantly eroding beaches, and in fact whole islands are disappearing. First, air pollution causes a great deal of health problems. Wanting clean air is a good reason because air that is polluted can damage human health. Indeed, the air pollution causes numerous diseases and increase health problems like the asthma or breathing problems; thus this is a real concern! Some persons cannot live in a big city because of the high rate of air pollution in it. However, our health is not the only to be threatened, our environment is threatened too. Indeed, the air pollution causes some disorders on the environment. Bahamians have another source of pollution; Cruise ships in the Bahamas produce enormous quantities of unwanted gases and fumes. This makes it a major contributor of pollution in the islands. Resolved Question: Should the government save the automakers?
That would be awesome to look GM and Ford fall flat on their faces, and Toyota reigning in as the new superiority in car making. or Does government need to keep another industry so that we have zombie companies floating around with no cause. Maybe the collapse of GM and Ford would be beneficial and Creative Destruction would take place and new more environmental companies will emerge and we will be using renewable energy cars. Already lost job from the financial bank collapse. Worked at Lehman Brothers Did you feel sorry for the people who lost their jobs in the finance industry. No why do I care about the automakers

Resolved Question: In 100 years, what could be the reasons for another major war?
Lets say in 100 years Earth has become somewhat of a peaceful planet. Petrol is nearly depleted however other renewable energy sources are now being used. In the over situation, what could be a cause for a country to go to war? I need some ideas for a short story for school. This story is set in our era. I need something that could happen. I was thinking of making the world a horrible place (weather, expenses etc)... People are going bankrupt, because cars still run on petrol, and petrol is nearly depleted. Another country has found oil, so another country goes to war to claim part of the oil. However I don't really like the idea! Thanks for any new ideas, or ideas to elaborate on my idea... Thanks BTW - this is idea of mine. There are no restrictions on what we have to write about.

Resolved Question: How would I be categorized politically? ?
I support unborn rights and would support a pro-life amendment to the constitution, with the only acceptation for the mom's life. I would abolish the department of education because it's a local and state level responsibility. I support the right to bear arms, concealed weapons licenses, hunting, stand your ground laws, etc. I support a 2 strikes and your out drunk driving law. I support a his body his choice law banning baby circumcision unless it is to treat a legitimate medical condition. I support the decriminalizing of marijuana because it is less harmful than alcohol. I think the drinking age should be 18 to match the age of adulthood. I think it is of the highest urgency to become and stay energy independent. I support nuclear power and increasing the number of nuclear power plants across America. I would push the car makers to make electric cars available for drivers who want them. I would set and push for goals of energy independence, curing cancer, and paying down the nation debt. I oppose the endangered species act because it has failed to protect one species and has only given government control of people's land. I would lift the levels of fines on employers hiring illegal aliens. Homeland security should only be used as an anti-terror agency and criminal law enforcement should be handled by other agencies. I don't believe there is such thing as a gay marriage and think we should give them the same privileges that comes with marriage but call it something else. I think capitalism is the greatest antipoverty tool the world has ever seen and encourage the economy, not put outrageous taxes on it. I don't believe humans are warming up the Earth but I think we need to clean up some of the messes we are making such as air quality. I believe in a tiny federal government. I don't think the general public should even notice the federal government unless they visit their local military recruiter or post office. No more ethanol, it causes higher grocery bills and less MPG. I support Boone's plan. I support the rights of nudists to live their lifestyle on their privately owned property without the government telling them they must put clothes on. I am a Christian but don't think it's the government's job to push morality, I think morality must arrive from the people up. Not the government down. I support net neutrality, and oppose bandwidth caps. I would revert our copyright laws back to that of the Webster and Benjamin Franklin years: An item can be copyrighted for 14 years, renewable once, then falls into public domain. We allow men to go out in public shirtless. I support amending the law allowing both genders to do the same. One gender shirtless is discrimination. I support women's rights to breast feed in public. That is the function of the breast. I don't think anyone has ever been harmed for seeing a breast. I think smokers should be required to pay their possess way when they receive cancer and heart disease. Not receive public money to battle a self imposed condition. I would allow people to possess their social security accounts and allow them to invest in a Roth IRA within their social security account so the people may build a nest egg to retire on. Each person will possess their account and congress may never dip into it. I would make it illegal for credit card companies to lift interest rates, at will, with no delinquent activity: banning universal default. Absolutely, no more national debt. No more borrowing. After a natural disaster, no funds should be given by the federal government to rebuild private property, only that which was owned by the public. Schools, highways, libraries, city halls, may be rebuilt by the taxpayer but not people's privately owned property. It's not our problem if they don't insure their property. I oppose bailouts of the private sector. If banks want to make bad loans to people who they know can't afford to pay them back, so be it. They will have to possess their misbehavior. Not the taxpayer. I believe terminally sick patients should be allowed to take experimental drugs that have yet to receive FDA approval. Lets receive rid of the IRS, replace tax system with flat tax or national sales tax. The IRS and current tax code only exists to control people. I oppose taxes on broadband internet access, sales tax on in items bought online, and regulation of online content. I don't believe our government is up to the task of providing national heath care and it's much better off left in the hands of the private sector. I think adults should legally be able to take steroids for body building if he is not competing in competitive sports. I think daylight savings time should be expanded to a year round project. I oppose the government regulating the content of literature, films, video games, etc.

Resolved Question: why does no one want to invest seriously in alternative energy?
http://news.brisbanetimes.com.au/world/world-oil-prices-more-than-two-us-dollars-higher-20081110-5ljq.html further down in the story youll look opec are considering yet another production clip to manipulate crude price. surely this is enough of a reason to want alternative energy. even if you dont believe in global warming and every that surely you dont want to be held to ransom by oil producing countrys? so why does no government seem keen to seriously invest in clean alternative energy that is renewable and will be cheap as in the long run compared to the way oil prices are heading in the future
